Kuta – Where to stay in Bali for Singles
Kuta is in the Southern part of Bali and is considered to be the party center of the city. it’s one of the most popular tourist areas in Bali and if you’re a foodie you’ll be able to find a heap of restaurants that will tantalizing your tongue.
Kuta beach is known as one of the best surfing beaches in Bali and is fairly busy, it can be compared to Patong in Phuket with it’s exciting high adrenaline water sports. Wondering where to stay in Bali solo traveller, Kuta is your best bet.
If you aren’t a fan of chain of food joints, aggressive hawkers, and traffic jams, Kuta may not be for you. While Kuta is one of the cheapest areas in Bali and very popular with tourists, I wouldn’t recommend it for families, it’s more suited for the younger crowd and backpackers however I will suggest a few family friendly hotels in Kuta. If you’re wondering Where to stay in Bali for nightlife, Kuta has plenty of nightlife options!

Seminyak – Where to stay in Bali for relaxed vibes
Also on the Southern side of Bali is Seminyak, here you will find another excellent beach area, perfect for surfing or sunbathing.
The beach offers a great spot for sunset lovers. Seminyak is a little quieter than Kuta but still offers some great entertainment options such as clubs and sleek bars.
Seminyak offer shopping experiences for all from smaller shops to exclusive high end designer shops. Considering Seminyak best places to stay Bali, if you’re wondering where to stay in Bali for a week, in my opinion, Seminyak is the best spot for long term stays.

Ubud – Unique places to stay in Bali
Ubud is a small town in the hills in Bali, it offers an alternative to the tropical beach scene with a view of the jungle/rainforest!
The area also features rich vegetative river valleys and rice terraces and rice patties fields with Hindu temples and shrines dotted around. Ubud is a little far from Kuta and the more “exciting scene”, approx an hour drive from the airport.
It is currently home to one of Bali’s royal family, where you can visit their palace in the centre of town. World-class and fine dining restaurants are adjacent to casual cafes; royal palaces, heritage museums and art galleries.
The nightlife scene here is low-key, making this area perfect for honeymooners, families or people who want to enjoy Bali’s beauty in peace, I think it’s one of the best place to stay in Bali.

Jimbaran Bay – Where to stay in Bali for couples
Jimbaran Bay is a fishing village, just south of Kuta. Jimbaran is popular with tourists because of its long beach and calm waters, its also one of the most beautiful places check out sunsets in Bali, it’s the best place to visit in Bali for couples. Dining options are lined along the beach with some of the best fish restaurants on the island.
The main local seafood dining destinations is the popular cluster of seafood cafes and restaurants on Muaya Beach, simply known as ‘Jimbaran Seafood Cafes’.
Shopping and nightlife remains low-key here, while some resorts, especially those on the rocky limestone cliff south of Jimbaran, feature spectacular sunset cocktail venues. Southwest of the Jimbaran are Dreamland Beach and Balangan Beach, known for their strong surfing waves.

Nusa Dua – Where to stay in Bali for families
Nusa Dua is an area in southern Bali and is considered as one of Bali’s most exclusive beachfront resort enclave and of course the best 18-hole golf course in Bali.
Nusa Dua is lined with gorgeous white sand beaches which are very well-maintained, the most popular is Geger Beach.
There are plenty of dining options within most hotels. Nightlife is also mostly contained within hotels and are mostly refined bars, rather than loud clubs.

Canggu – Where to stay in Bali for Surfing
Canggu is a resort village on the southern coast of Bali. Similar to Ubud, it’s surrounded by terraced rice paddies, but the difference is that Canggu has a beach.
The best beaches are Canggu beach and Echo which like most beach in Bali are perfect for surfing. Canggu is pretty popular with Digital Nomads and bloggers, or anyone making a living online.

Legian – Where to stay in Bali on a budget
Between the nightlife hubs of Kuta and Seminyak, lies the smaller beach area of Legian. Offering more budget-friendly beachfront resorts than Seminyak, Legian is a good compromise for those wanting to be near the action of Seminyak.
While not breaking the bank on their Bali vacation. Another reason this is a great place to stay in Bali and stay on budget is the abundance of street markets and food vendors.
There’s no need to eat at fancy beach resort restaurants when you can sample delicious street food every day. But don’t worry, it’s all very compact, so even if you stay in Legian, you can easily reach any of the other areas along Seminyak Beach.

Sanur – Where to stay in Bali for relaxation
Along the East Coast of Bali, the area of Sanur Beach offers a quieter respite from some of the more lively Bali resorts.
If your Bali vacation plans include a visit to Nusa Lembongan, or the Komodo Islands, you’ll likely depart from Sanur.
At Sanur, you’ll find more trees, less traffic and a quieter beach than some of the larger resort towns on the West Coast.
Rest assured, there are still many beachfront resorts to choose from, as well as restaurants and shops, just fewer crowds to contend with. If you are seeking laid-back luxury with Balinese charm, Sanur is the best area to stay in Bali.

Pemuteran – Where to stay in Bali for a genuine experience
Along the northern coast of Bali is the water sports capital of Pemuteran. The remote location helps Pemuteran remain one of the best diving and snorkeling spots in Bali.
After a drive through lush rice fields, you arrive at Pemuteran resort to a surprising lack of crowds and tourism.
Just offshore is Bali’s only national park Taman Nasional Bali Barat. Locals around Pemuteran worked hard to prevent this area from becoming over-touristed like other Bali beachfront resorts.
That’s not to say the area isn’t tourist-friendly, but you’re more likely to find traditional-style bungalows and guesthouses rather than glitzy high-rise resorts.

Denpasar – Where to stay in Bali for temple lovers
Don’t rule out the capital city of Denpasar for a few days of your Bali vacation. Sure, most visitors come to Bali for beaches and water sports, but the city holds cultural and historical interests and may be a welcome change after days of beach time.
Home of the Bali Arts Festival, Denpasar is filled with Hindu temples, museums, and shopping areas that range from street vendors to stylish boutiques.
As this region sees fewer tourists, the prices are often more affordable as they are for locals, not inflated for tourists. Denpasar is a great place to stay in Bali if you want to experience urban culture of Indonesia, with Balinese charm.
Don’t miss the day trip to Besakih, the “Mother Temple of Hindu Bali,” a temple complex 25 kilometres by car from Denpasar.

Bali’s former capital in the north, Singaraja is a port city known for Dutch-colonial history. The second largest city of Bali, it was the capital until 1953 when the capital shifted south to Denpasar.
While many cultural attractions such as temples and museums remain, Singaraja is also a premier outdoor adventure destination of Bali.
Waterfall hikes, hot springs and water sports are all abundant in this region. Don’t miss the temples at Pura Beji, with intricate carvings that have stood the test of time.

Another water sports destination of Bali is the Amed region, a series of fishing villages along the East Coast. This is also a Bali region that has escaped, or resisted, over tourism but still manages to draw divers and snorkelers from all over the world.
Coral-filled bays line the shore, against a backdrop of Bali’s largest volcano, and miles of rice fields.
There are offshore wrecks to dive, winding roads to explore on a scooter and quaint beachfront resorts to relax in. Amed may just be the best area to stay in Bali for scenery and variety of activities.
