Gili Trawangan – Where to stay in the Gili Islands for tourists
Gili Trawangan is the largest of the three Gili Islands and the one furthest west, closest to Bali and farthest from Lombok. Although it’s the largest of the islands, it’s still quite small. Gili means “small” after all, and you can walk around the entire island in just a couple of hours.
It does mean that Gili Trawangan has the most options for travelers: whether it’s Gili Trawangan accommodation, restaurants, bars or dive schools. Wondering which Gili Island is best for families? Gili Trawangan is ideal as there is more access to things you might need as a family than the other islands.
With so many choices that include Gili Trawangan hotels on the beach, this is the best area for tourists who would like a variety of activities beyond just a relaxing beach vacation.
It’s also the best choice for travelers planning a family-friendly Gili Islands trip. With accommodation that ranges from luxury to budget-friendly, the best place to stay in Gili Trawangan is the one that fits your budget!

Gili Meno – Where to stay in the Gili Islands for couples
The middle island, Gili Meno, is the least developed of the Gili Islands and Bali. With little to do other than relax on the best beaches in Indonesia, Gili Meno tends to attract the low-key crowd looking for romantic getaways.
Accommodation on Gili Meno is generally more exclusive, with fewer budget-friendly options.
With upscale resorts and beach villas plus a few restaurants, it may not be the best choice for many travelers to spend the night, but you can always take one of the fast boats from another island to take a day trip to Gili Meno.
It’s worth it just for the chance to explore deserted white sand beaches that you’ll likely have all to yourself. In short, Gili Meno is the best area for tourists who just want to relax and unwind, with no specific activities in mind.

Gili Air – Where to stay in the Gili Islands for relaxation
If Gili Trawangan is too busy and Gili Meno is too quiet, then Gili Air is just right. The island nearest to Lombok has fast boats that arrive from Lombok, Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno.
While Trawangan has the backpacker party scene and Meno has the honeymooner scene, Gili Air is just a chill place to kick back and relax. There are activities like watersports and just enough restaurants and watering holes to occupy your time during your visit, but nothing over the top.
As diving schools are popular in the Gili Islands, there are a few dive schools on Gili Air. It’s also quickly becoming a yoga hot spot to compete with other yoga destinations in nearby Bali.
Being in such close proximity to Lombok also means you can easily make a day trip to other nearby islands, including the Flores Islands and Komodo National Park.
