Inverness City Centre – Where to stay in Inverness for tourists

If you only have a short time in Inverness, choose one of the Inverness hotels that are located in the city centre. The central location makes this the best area for tourists who prefer to explore the city on foot, or perhaps those who need a break from the car after road tripping around the Scottish Highlands.

In addition to housing the majority of Inverness Scotland hotels, the city centre is also home to such major attractions as the Inverness Castle, several museums and some of the best restaurants in Inverness.

Merkinch – Where to stay in Inverness on a budget

North of the city centre is the area called Merkinch, a working-class suburb of Inverness. It’s one of the oldest parts of Inverness and lies between the Caledonian Canal and the River Ness. It remains one of the poorer areas around Inverness, but backpackers looking for budget-friendly accommodation near Inverness might find a suitable hotel or flat to rent. One attraction of the area is the Merkinch Local Nature Reserve, a nice place to take a walk along the Canal and look for wildlife.

Culduthel – Where to stay in Inverness for relaxation

South of Inverness lies the suburban area of Culduthel. This is a great place to stay if you are planning many day trips throughout the Scottish Highlands and would like a quiet place to retreat in the evening. It is largely residential, with few tourist attractions, but the location is conveniently halfway between Inverness and Loch Ness.
