Located along the northeast end of Flores Island, Maumere is a popular destination for both outdoor adventure and cultural experiences. One popular day trip from Maumere is to visit the village of Sikka, just 30 kilometers away, where weaving is an important industry.
You can take a tour to watch the entire process, from dying the threads to the actual weaving of clothes. Another popular excursion from Maumere is to the coloured lakes of Mount Kelimutu, which are three hours by car. While swimming is not allowed, there are two viewpoints from which you can observe this unique spot.
