European Quarter (Orangerie) – Where to Stay in Strasbourg With Family

The Orangerie district, also known as the European Quarter, is northeast of Grande Île de Strasbourg.

It’s an upmarket residential neighbourhood so the streets here are quieter than in the city centre and there are fewer bars, nightclubs, and restaurants. If you want to know where to stay in Strasbourg with family, particularly if you have young kids, then this is a fantastic choice.

One of the best reasons to stay here with children is the neighbourhood’s namesake park, the Parc de l’Orangerie. It’s a huge, sprawling park that is approximately 3 km in circumference.

Krutenau – Where to Stay in Strasbourg On a Budget

These areas have great infrastructure for cycling so you could hire a bike and explore a side of Strasbourg that few tourists get to see. Plus, these neighbourhoods are within walking distance of Grande Île de Strasbourg where all the tourist attractions are so you can have the best of both worlds.

Despite these neighbourhoods being quieter and more residential, there are still lots of hotels across the spectrum.

La Meinau and some parts of the Elsau are neighbourhoods in the south of Strasbourg that have a reputation as being the sketchier parts of the city.

This is likely based on historical events in previous decades and doesn’t reflect the reality of the neighbourhood today. However, these are not great places to stay in Strasbourg, France anyway because they are far away from all the best tourist attractions.

That is also why you should avoid booking hotels in the neighbourhoods of Neudorf, Robertsau and Vauban. These are very residential areas with lots of higher education institutions but not a lot of things to do for tourists.

You should also avoid booking hotels near the Conseil de l’Europe or European Parliament because the vast majority of hospitality in this neighbourhood caters to business travellers and politicians. Not the vibe you want on a fun city break to Strasbourg!
