Where to stay in Pattaya [Best Places to Stay for 2024]
Pattaya is a city on Thailand’s eastern Gulf coast and is very known with tourists for its beaches. It used to be a quiet fishing village in the 60s but now it’s beaches are lined with resort hotels, high-rise condos, shopping malls, cabaret bars and 24-hour clubs.
Nearby, hillside Wat Phra Yai Temple features an 18m-tall golden Buddha. The area also features several designer golf courses, some with views of Pattaya Bay.
Quick note: Prices will obviously vary from high season to low season, in some cases by almost 50%! Low tourist season is from May to October and high tourist season is November to April. Personally, I think Phuket is the best in October as it is the last month of the low season and there doesn’t seem to be much rain to ruin your holiday.

Pattaya Beach – Ideal for nightlife
Pattaya Beach runs for four kilometres along Thailand’s Eastern Gulf Coast and is arguably the most well-known area of Central Pattaya.
This popular destination in Thailand offers a lot of things to do, from swimming and sunbathing to shopping and partying.
Why stay at Pattaya Beach:
Pattaya Beach is the best place to stay in Pattaya for nightlife. This area is usually packed with people, as it is one of the top tourist destinations in Thailand.
Although Pattaya isn’t known as a retail hub, Pattaya Beach has several large malls that attract a crowd of both locals and visitors, which makes it a perfect place to stay for nightlife in Pattaya.
Pattaya Beach is not the ideal place to bring children at night due to the big party scene, but during the day there are several exciting attractions like Ripley’s Believe It or Not and the Teddy Bear Museum, as well as a few cool floating restaurants.
Things to do at Pattaya Beach:
- Ripley’s Believe It or Not!
This quirky is a part of the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Franchise and consists of 10 themed galleries with over 350 exhibits from around the world.
The exhibits range from the weird and bizarre to the fascinating and educational, including displays such as a model of the Titanic made from over a million matchsticks.
It’s a must if you are travelling with family and or you want something different to do during the day.
- Pattaya Night Bazaar
One of the most popular markets in the area is the Pattaya Night Bazaar. Open from late afternoon until midnight, you’ll find the typical clothing, accessories and handicrafts that are sold at most Thai markets, but in a covered setting. It’s not far from Beach Road and is a great place to practice your bargaining skills!
- Dine at a floating cafe
A quintessential Pattaya experience is enjoying a meal and a drink at one of the floating cafes and restaurants a short distance from the shoreline.
Hop on a boat from the dock and head out to relax, order a cocktail and dig into some fresh seafood. Tappia Floating Cafe, Squid Cafe and the Sun Cafe are your best options, each offering a bit of a different vibe.

Walking Street – Best place to stay in Pattaya for single people
Wondering where to stay in Pattaya near Walking Street? This famous street starts at the end of Pattaya Beach Road and spans all the way to Bal Hai Pier.
Why stay at Walking Street Pattaya:
If your favourite thing to do when visiting a new city is to experience its nightlife, then Walking Street is the place for you. It is the most popular party destination in Thailand, with only a few areas of Bangkok measuring up, so it’s perfect for singles looking to socialise.
Similar to Bangla Road in Patong, Phuket, Walking Street is the “red-light district” of Pattaya, illuminated by the glowing neon signs of the endless bars, nightclubs and restaurants.
Walking Street largely attracts an international crowd, but plenty of locals enjoy the nightlife here too. The entire street is closed to road traffic in the evenings, which means it’s full of people and you can spend all night bar-hopping.
Things to do at Walking Street Pattaya:
- Enjoy the nightlife
Most bars close up at around 4 am, and you could easily stay around until then without getting bored. Yet, even if you’re not into crazy partying, you can still enjoy the nightlife along Walking Street by grabbing a beer and listening to some music.
There are plenty of live music bars, like the Stones House and Muzzik Cafe, that have a great atmosphere.
- Watch a Muay Thai fight
There are a few bars along Walking Street with boxing rings, ready to attract tourists inside. While this experience won’t be the same as attending a real Muay Thai fight held in a stadium, it still provides some entertainment nonetheless.

Naklua and Wong Amat Beaches – Ideal for couples
Pattaya is mostly known for its beaches, and luckily for tourists, there are several to choose from. While Pratumnak is a cosy, tucked-away beach, Naklua and Wong Amat Beaches are quite the opposite.
Located to the north of Pattaya City, Naklua and Wong Amat Beaches are an enticing mix of local culture and a booming tourist industry.
Why stay at Naklua and Wong Amat Beaches:
Naklua and Wong Amat Beaches are said to be the best place to stay in Pattaya for couples since you can relax and enjoy the beach life.
The beaches in these areas are easily some of the nicest in Pattaya, with clear blue waters and soft white sand. While many areas of Pattaya are taken over by tourists, Naklua and Wong Amat allow you to experience local culture without fighting through the crowds.
While high-rise hotels line the coast, there are also small fishing communities in the area that provide fresh produce for the best restaurants in the area.
Things to do at Naklua and Wong Amat Beaches:
- Sanctuary of Truth Museum
One of the coolest museums in Pattaya is the Sanctuary of Truth, which also serves as a temple.
This unique wooden structure is made entirely of teak wood, with impressive carvings and sculptures depicting religious and philosophical themes. The level of detail throughout is truly mind-blowing.
- Wong Amat Beach
Of course, you can’t miss spending time at the beach. Wong Amat is much quieter than neighbouring beaches, and there are roped-off areas where you can swim.
It’s a lovely place to take a walk at sunset or sit with a book underneath the shade of the trees. Although the area is surrounded by high-rise condos and hotels, this doesn’t take away from the beauty of the area.

Jomtien Beach – Ideal for family
Jomtien Beach is a more subdued alternative to the party areas of Pattaya. Located south of Pattaya Beach, Jomtien stretches for six kilometres along the coastline and has so much to offer.
Why stay at Jomtien Beach:
Older travellers, families and people who simply aren’t a fan of an overwhelming nightlife presence will prefer Jomtien Beach to Pattaya Beach.
The beach itself is nowhere near as crowded, and the area is generally cheaper. Jomtien is also a great place for water sports like jet skiing, parasailing and windsurfing, and is close to several of Pattaya’s top attractions.
Things to do at Jomtien Beach:
- Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden
As the largest botanical garden in Southeast Asia, Nong Nooch is a must-visit. This popular 200-hectare park is impressively landscaped and includes a wide variety of tropical plants, including palm trees, orchids, cacti and ferns.
There are several themed areas, including a French garden, a Stonehenge garden, a pottery garden, and a butterfly hill. There are also cultural shows put on here that feature traditional Thai dances and martial arts demonstrations.
- Floating Market
One of Pattaya’s best attractions is the Floating Market. Built around a canal, over 100 vendors here sell goods from either boats or shops on stilts.
This unique market is designed to showcase the traditional way of life in Thailand’s water-based villages, and visitors can take a leisurely boat ride through the market to shop or browse.
- Big Buddha Temple
The Big Buddha Temple, also known as Wat Phra Yai, is a notable Buddhist temple located on a hilltop in Pattaya.
As the name suggests, it is known for its large golden Buddha statue, which stands 18 metres tall and can be seen from kilometres away. You can reach the temple by climbing up the steep stairs, where a gorgeous panoramic view awaits you at the top.
- Underwater World
Want to learn about marine conservation while also seeing some cool aquatic creatures? Underwater World is home to over 5,000 marine animals, including sharks, stingrays, sea turtles, and a variety of fish and coral species.
The most unique and immersive experience here is the 100-metre underwater tunnel, with sea creatures swimming all around you.
