Khao Takiab – Where to stay in Hua Hin for relaxation

A small fishing village ten kilometres south of Hua Hin popular with luxury travelers is Khao Takiab.

The beach is dominated by Khao Takiab (Monkey Mountain) and Wat Khao Takiap, a Buddhist temple where tourists flock to see monkeys and amazing views of the surrounding area.

There is a lack of nightlife here, and Khao Takiab is a bit more difficult to reach, so it’s a quieter escape compared to other beaches of Thailand.

What you will find here, are many middle-range and luxury resorts, and a string of beach huts offering basic services.

The resorts here are truly stunning, but make your choice carefully; with so few restaurants in town, you’ll likely be eating most of your meals at the hotel, too.

Cha-Am – Where to stay in Hua Hin with family

Just north of central Hua Hin is the Cha-Am area. This resort town is known for having one of the best beaches in Khiri Khan. The large sandy beach is very family friendly, as are the surrounding resorts.

Although it’s the nearest of these beaches to Bangkok, it’s rarely crowded which makes Cha-Am the perfect destination for a quiet getaway.

What Cha-Am lacks in nightlife and restaurants is made up for in the wide choice of hotels. Fishing is still a major industry here in Cha-Am, so expect to see fishing boats and fresh seafood along the beach.

This also happens to be the location of the Royal Summer home, Phrarachanivet Mrigadayavan, which is now open to the public for tours.

Pran buri – Where to stay in Hua Hin for adventure travellers

Farther south of Hua Hin is the resort area of Pran Buri. This area is popular with those seeking a quiet escape, but also with adventure travelers visiting the nearby Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park. This area is truly remote, however, at 30 kilometers from central Hua Hin.

Luxury travellers have their pick of five-star resorts and private villas on stunning beaches, but there are few budget-friendly options in Pran Buri.

Much like Khao Takiab, there are few options for dining, nightlife, and shopping, so choose your accommodation carefully as you’ll be spending a lot of time there.

Bo Fai – Where to stay in Hua Hin for tourists

Another resort area not far from central Hua Hin is Bo Fai, the area nearest the Hua Hin airport. This area between Hua Hin and Cha Am is largely residential, and not oriented to Western tourists.

This is a good area for tourists looking to rent a home, possibly for a long-term stay, although there are a few high-end resorts and hotels here, too.

Bo Fai has a fairly robust dining and nightlife scene in this district, thanks to many expats and Thai residents who stay here. Bo Fai is also popular with golfers, thanks to local courses in the neighbourhood.
