Vastra Hamnen – Where to stay in Malmo for young travellers

Vastra Hamnen or Western Harbour is one of the newest trendy areas in Malmo. In what was once the world’s largest dock, an industrial area has become a sleek neighborhood of high-rise apartments and offices. With a large focus on technology and sustainability on developments like Fullriggaren, Vastra Hamnen attracts the city’s young and upwardly mobile residents.

The area is not without natural attractions, as there are several parks and public swimming areas in the Harbor as well. For those arriving by train, the central station of Malmo is just ten minutes from Vastra Hamnen. Even if you don’t choose a Malmo hotel in Vastra Hamen, you will likely visit the neighborhood, if for no other reason than to admire the architecture of the “Turning Torso” high rise building.

Davidshall – Where to stay in Malmo for a budget

On the south side of Old Town is the area known as Davidshall, a popular neighborhood of Malmo. Being just outside the city center means you can find budget-friendly accommodation options while remaining within walking distance of some of Malmo’s best areas.

Along with St. Knuts next door, this part of Malmo is perfect for travelers who want to relax and blend in with locals, enjoying the Swedish tradition of fika in a cozy cafe. The Art Museum (kunsthalle) and Malmo Opera are also close to Davidshall, making it the best area for tourists looking to explore the cultural side of Sweden.

Kirseberg – Where to stay in Malmo with Family

This large area east of the city center has a more suburban feel and is perfect for travelers seeking a family-friendly environment or perhaps a longer stay in Malmo. This residential neighborhood almost feels like a small village within Malmo as it was once merged with Malmo.

Known for schools and parks, there are many families living here. There are several parks, including Beijers Park, as well as a golf course and public swimming nearby. Malmö Östervärn station provides easy access to the city center in just ten minutes, and you can transfer from there to anywhere you need to go.
