Haga – Where to stay in Gothenburg for Families

Haga Gothenburg is the Old City area, a charming district where locals and tourists alike mix and mingle. Haga Nygata and Linnégatan are two of the main roads running through the district and the hub of activity in Haga.

Historic buildings have been transformed into quaint shops and cafes, making this a great place to shop for unique souvenirs from Sweden.

Haga is just a few minutes’ walk from the city centre, making it a convenient place to stay in Gothenburg Sweden.

One highlight of this neighborhood is a visit to Kunsparken, a riverfront park with tree-lined paths. While there are fewer Gothenburg hotel options here, it’s the perfect place to find a family-friendly apartment rental near the city centre.

Centrum – Where to stay in Gothenburg for Tourists

Gothenburg’s city centre, or Centrum, is the best area for tourists who are visiting Gothenburg for the first time. Staying in central Gothenburg allows you easy access to the best sights and museums, as well as Gothenburg central station.

The majority of hotels in Gothenburg Sweden are in and around the city centre, with options from budget-friendly hostels to luxury hotels.

Don’t miss the market hall, or Feskekorka, where you can buy fresh seafood and peer into Gothenburg’s main industry.

Centrum is also home to some major shopping streets which include Nordstan, a shopping centre. Magasinsgatan is another main street for shopping and also a great place to find delicious restaurants.

Linné – Where to stay in Gothenburg with Kids

Linné, short for Linnéstaden, is one of the coolest neighborhoods in Gothenburg, and a great place to see how the locals live.

Located west of the city centre, this trendy neighborhood has a great mix of shopping, dining and entertainment options. Come summer, cafes spill out into the streets with sidewalk setups.

Several parks in the area, including Slottsskogen, make this a family-friendly neighborhood, with lots of outdoor space for littles to explore. The park contains a petting zoo, playground, history museum, and a zoo.

Majorna – Where to stay in Gothenburg for Nightlife

Adjacent to Linné is the once working-class neighborhood of Majorna. As the cost of living in Linné increases, students and artists are moving into Majorna, which is quickly becoming a cultural hub of Gothenburg.

While this neighborhood lacks the polish and posh of other Gothenburg neighborhoods, it’s still a great area for travelers interested in nightlife and art.

Live music and art exhibitions are frequent occurrences here, and there are plenty of restaurants to satiate your appetite for interesting cuisines. If shopping is your jam, there are plenty of second-hand and vintage stores to browse in Majorna.

Avenyn – Where to stay in Gothenburg on Budget

Avenyn is the shortened name for Kungsportsavenyn, one of Gothenburg’s main thoroughfares. This is truly one of the best areas for tourists to stay in Gothenburg as it’s buzzing day and night with activity.

Stretching from the public square at Götaplatsen up to the canal at Kunsparken, this neighborhood also contains some of the best museums in Gothenburg.

In addition to interesting boutiques and restaurants, you’ll find many global brands that call Avenyn home.

Make sure you save time for exploring some of the side streets that branch out from Kungsportsavenyn, as that’s where you’ll find a more Swedish experience.
