Wilpena is located 429km from Adelaide in the Flinders Ranges. There is no shortage of things to do in this area, from bushwalking to bike riding, 4wd driving to scenic flights or hot air ballooning. You can camp here to stay i the holiday accommodations.
2. Willow Spring Skytrek 4WD track
Willow Spring Station is a 70000 acres sheep station. The 60km Skytrek 4WD track was constructed in 1995, then in 2012 the route was changed to remove the Mt Caernarvon track and is now exclusively on Willow Springs Station.
The 60km track takes about 6-7 hours to complete!! There are 42 points of interest, stops and gates in total along the Skytrek.
3. Hot Air Ballooning or Scenic Flights
You can choose between Hot Air Ballooning or Scenic flights around Wilpena Pound. We choose to do the Hot air ballooning just to try something different. We didn’t regret it!
One of the people who came on the balloon with us, said she had been on a scenic flight and now hot air ballooning, she said she preferred the ballooning, as you go so much slower and get to take things in rather than speeding past.
4.Moralana Scenic Drive
Moralana Scenic Drive is a stretch of 28km dirt road between the Wilpena road and the Leigh creek road.
Along this road you will see the southern wall of Wilpena Pound, the ABC ranges, Black Gap Lookout, Elder Range and much more!
5. Brachina Gorge
Brachina Gorge is located in the Flinders Ranges National Park and is one of the most popular tourist attractions. This gorge has a large habitat for the Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby.
The Brachina Gorge Geological Tour is a 20 km self-guided trail that passes through 130 million years of earth history, there are signs showing what type of rock is shown and how old it is.
