Added Extra: Areas to Avoid in Zurich

Zurich is known for its high level of safety, even when comparing it to other Western European cities. Tourists in Zurich are primarily at risk of pickpocketing, as in many major cities and tourist hotspots.

The old town and city center are considered safe. However, there is some low-level crime in District 4 (Aussersihl), traditionally the red-light district. This area has been gentrified, with expensive bars and restaurants, but still retains some of its old character.

Nevertheless, District 4 is a popular area for clubbing and socializing, and is by no means a “no-go area”

FAQs About best places to stay in zurich switzerland

The best areas to stay in Zurich depend on your interests. For sightseeing and shopping, the Old Town (Altstadt) is ideal. For a more upscale experience, the Bahnhofstrasse area offers luxury hotels and boutiques. For nightlife, the Zurich West and Langstrasse districts are recommended.

This depends on personal preference. Hotels offer convenience and services like daily housekeeping and room service, while vacation rentals often provide more space and a homely feel.

I’d recommend booking at least 2-3 months in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons (summer and winter) or if you’re visiting during a major event or festival.
