Old Town – Where to stay in Prague for nightlife

The Old Town, or Stare Mesto, has the most attractions, some of the best nightlife in Prague and is the best area to stay in Prague for nightlife, however it is also the most crowded and the most expensive, as is usually the case with tourist centers in major cities.

The cobblestone streets leading out from Old Town square are full of discoveries for visitors to Prague. There are historical churches and sites such as the Old Town Hall with Astronomical Clock, plus the Estates Theater for ballet and dance, the Rudolfinium concert hall for classical music and a student nightlife scene. Old Town Prague is also the best place to stay in Prague for Tourist.

Within Old Town, you’ll also find Josefov, the former Jewish ghetto that holds reminders of the history, such as the Old Jewish cemetery and a Holocaust Museum. As the center of Prague for residents and tourists alike, there are many hotels to choose from in Old Town, I think it’s the best area of Prague to stay in.

Mala Strana – Best place to stay in Prague for couples

Nestled between Old Town and the Castle District is Mala Strana, also known as Lesser Town or Little Quarter. Mala Strana is one of the most historic neighborhoods in Prague, and is filled with small shops, restaurants and narrow streets connected by stairs. Although very near the center of Prague, it is much less crowded, and therefore more charming than, Old Town.

Mala Strana is where you’ll find the John Lennon Wall, a graffiti covered wall inspired by the lyrics of John Lennon, as well as the John Lennon pub, where you can enjoy a pint, in a city never visited by John Lennon himself! Mala Strana is a great spot to enjoy a riverside dinner in Prague, with a view of the Vltava river.

Hradcany – Where to stay in Prague for first timers

Hradcany, also known as the Castle District, is the area surrounding Prague Castle, reportedly the largest castle in the world. There are several noble historical palaces within Hradcany, as well as peaceful nooks, quiet streets and breathtaking views.

Hradcany Square, at the center of the district and is considered the best area to stay in Prague for sightseeing and still maintains the medieval appearance of its origins, despite a great fire in 1541 and subsequent rebuild. Luxury travelers will find a lot of options in Hradcany, including many restored medieval buildings.

Nove Mesto – Where to stay in Prague for Luxury Travellers

Nove Mesto, or New Town, is a busy commercial hub centered around Wenceslas square. Don’t be fooled by the name, as Nove Mesto dates back to the 1300’s, but is still the “newest” of Prague’s 5 towns. Nove Mesto, being a commercial district, is where you will find upscale accommodations suited for business travelers. You’ll also find plenty of restaurants, shops and clubs in Nove Mesto.

Vinohrady – Best neighborhood to stay in Prague

Vinohrady, which means vineyard, is a neighborhood filled with green spaces, coffee shops and international cuisine. Along with many expats, Vinohrady is also where you will find Prague’s gay quarter. Accommodations in Vinohrady are often found in older, restored mansions, although there are a few hostels in the area, too. There are even a few vineyards remaining in Vonohrady that you can visit.

Karlin – Where to stay in Prague on a Budget

Karlin is one of the newer districts in Prague, and houses many commuters to the city due to it’s close proximity to the city center. There are parks, such as Vilkov Hill, where you can see great views of Prague. This is not a touristy neighborhood, so you won’t find historical attractions, or big-name hotels, but self-catering apartments and hostels are easily available.

Smichov – Where to stay in Prague for Business

Smichov is a former industrial area that still has a lot of traffic and commercial businesses. Located just south of the Mala Strana, Smichov’s accessibility makes up for the lack of historical interest. Within Smichov, Andel is a busy commercial center and hub for public transportation, and also has a mega-shopping mall, movie theater and several fast food restaurants.

Next to the Vinohrady district is Zizkov, a no-frills neighborhood that houses Prague’s largest cemetery. You can find several beer halls, as well as dining and shopping.
