Denmark’s third largest city, Odense, sits on the island Funen and is a fun alternative destination to Copenhagen. Odense Denmark largely flies under the tourist radar and remains a charming small city to visit. The best “claim to fame” for Odense is that it’s the hometown of Hans Christian Andersen, the author known best for fairy tales.
His former home has been turned into a museum which you can now visit. As for getting around Odense, it’s fairly easy; the western half of the city is pedestrianized, and there’s a free bus that circles the city center every ten minutes. So no matter which Odense accommodation you choose, it will be easy to see the best sights.
We will cover off all types of Odense accommodation options from Hostels to luxury Odense hotels as well as how to decide where to stay in Odense 2023, the best Odense hotels, best places in Odense to visit, the best places to stay in Odense, hotels near Odense attractions, Odense neighborhood guide and many more.

Odense C – Where to stay in Odense for tourists
Odense C is the centrum, or city center, and the best area for tourists who want to be close to everything in walking distance. The main train station is here, as is the majority of Odense hotels. Two of Hans Christian Andersen’s homes are near the center, as are many museums and historic attractions.
The centrum is also the nightlife hub of Odense, and travelers who choose a hotel in this district will not go hungry, with dozens of amazing restaurants to try. While Denmark is notoriously expensive, it is still possible to find budget-friendly accommodations in or near the city center.

Odense M – Where to stay in Odense with family
Perhaps the city center is too much noise for you and you prefer a quiet, family-friendly Odense neighborhood to stay in. Then Odense M is perfect for you. Just a bit south of Odense C, Odense M is a more residential neighborhood without the nightlife of Odense C. It’s very near to the Odense Zoo, Syddansk Univesity and shopping centers including IKEA. T
he Funen Village is a recreated 19th-century village and open-air museum featuring half-timbered houses and farm animals. Of course, you’ll still want to visit attractions in the city center, which is only 15 minutes by bike and also easy to reach by bus. While there are fewer Odense hotels in this area, there are a few scattered about as well as apartment rentals which are perfect for traveling with kids.
