Latin Quarter – Best place to stay in Copenhagen on a Budget
Adjacent to Indre By is Copenhagen’s Latin Quarter, named for a Latin school that became the University of Copenhagen. Another excellent central location for Copenhagen visitors, the Latin Quarter is only 10 minutes walk from neighborhoods like Vesterbro and Indre By, a minute walk to the city center. As home of the University, there are lots of budget-friendly options here for students or budget travelers. There are also plenty of trendy, hip bars, boutiques and restaurants in the Latin Quarter.

Nyhavn – Best place to stay in Copenhagen with Family
Nyhavn is probably the most photographed neighborhood in Copenhagen and considered one of the best areas to stay in Copenhagen. Cute, colorful buildings, fronted by sidewalk cafes, nestled along a harbor filled with sailboats. It’s adorable. It’s also a great place to stay in Copenhagen.
A short walk from Nyhavn is Hans Christian Andersen’s very famous fairytale character… the Little Mermaid statue. It’s one of the most photographed statues in Denmark.
Nyhavn, or New Harbor, is one of Copenhagen’s premier entertainment districts, so you’re never far from excellent restaurants and live music. This is also where you’ll find the Royal Theater. Many of Nyhavn’s better hotels will have excellent harbor views to admire.
Nyhavn, in my opinion is my recommendation on where to stay in Copenhagen first time. The sidewalk cafes, and 17th century waterfront buildings make this are such a unique to stay in. It makes you feel like you’re in Europe on vacation, rather in your hometown. Wondering where to stay in Copenhagen for a weekend Nyhavn is perfect.

Vesterbro – The coolest area to stay in Copenhagen
For a more hipster vibe, consider staying in Vesterbro, Copenhagen’s Meatpacking district. Located just behind Tivoli Gardens, Vesterbro has become a creative hotspot in recent years, as artists, designers, filmmakers and photographers move in. As the neighborhood grows, more and more options pop up. Wondering where to stay in Copenhagen for one night? This is your best bet (in my opinon anyway).
You’ll find new bars and restaurants, trendy hotels, organic markets and vintage boutiques. Old warehouses and processing plants are quickly converting into food halls and art galleries. Vesterbro is still very central in Copenhagen, so you’ll have no trouble getting around to other parts of town. Vesterbro used to be Copenhagen’s red light district however nowadays it’s more of a hip and trendy neighborhood.
