Anda – Where to stay in Bohol on a budget

At the east end of the island, you’ll find the resort area of Anda Bohol. Anda is more of an up and coming Bohol destination after many years as a hidden gem of Bohol. With some of the best beaches in Bohol, it’s no wonder this spot is slowly coming on the radar.

The area is also known for hidden cave pools that are tucked into the nearby jungle. For budget travelers looking for where to stay in Bohol, backpacker hostels are quite common around Anda. While Anda is not as easily accessible as Tagbilaran or Panglao, once you arrive, it’s quite easy to get around.

Loboc – Where to stay in Bohol for eco tourists

Loboc is an inland village, about 25 kilometers east of Tagbilaran. Located on the shores of the Loboc River, Loboc is the perfect destination for adventure travelers who are less interested in a laid-back beach vacation and would prefer exploring the jungles, rivers, and waterfalls of Bohol. The river is very popular for cruises, but also for kayak trips.

The area is popular with eco-tourists, with many attractions to see, including the Tarsier Conservation Area, the Loboc Eco-Tourism Adventure Park. and the Habitat Butterflies Conservation Area. Tarsiers are a rare primate only found on islands in Southeast Asia, so even if you do not stay in Loboc, it’s worth a day trip to seek out these tiny, wide-eyed creatures.

Jagna – Where to stay in Bohol for adventure travellers

Between Loboc and Anda, the town of Jagna lies along the southern coast of Bohol. Jagna is a bustling town of about 30,000 residents that is known for a protected off-shore coral reef, as well as a number of historical sites. The town itself is centered around a massive Catholic church, while the surrounding jungles hold hidden destinations for adventurous travelers. Many caves are tucked away and ready to explore, with waterfalls and swimming holes scattered about. The nearby mountains have been terraced into rice fields, and of course, there are many beaches to visit as well.

Carmen – Where to stay in Bohol for Adrenaline Junkies

Besides beautiful beaches, Bohol is also known for the Chocolate Hills. Over 1,000 small hills form a beautiful landscape that is unique to Bohol. The hills are grass-covered and at certain times of the year, the grass turns brown, giving the name “chocolate” hills. Carmen sits in the middle of these hills and is there for a popular spot for Bohol travelers and photographers. The town sits at the center of the island where the two main roads meet. Like other inland areas of Bohol, Carmen is home to caves and rice fields, as well as an adventure park for adrenaline junkies.

Corella – Where to stay in Bohol for Trekking

Just ten kilometers northeast of Tagbilaran is the small town of Corella. Best known for the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary, Corella is often visited as a day trip from the Bohol beach areas. Corella and the surrounding area has been declared a protected area for tarsiers, with several opportunities to see these exotic animals. Trekking along the Tarsier Trail is another activity that is popular with visitors to Corella. While you won’t find big hotels or beach resorts here, there are guest houses scattered around the area should you choose to stay overnight.

Where the Loboc River empties into the Bohol Sea, you’ll find the village of Loay. Less than 20 kilometers from Tagbilaran, Loay is another Bohol village with a nice mix of historic sites and island attractions. The surrounding hills are perfect for hiking, while the river offers watersports adventures. The center of town features a Spanish Colonial Plaza, as well as the Clarin Ancestral House, which was built around 1840 and is now a museum.
