Travel to Sweden

Sweden Destination

Scandinavia’s largest country is bordered by Norway and Finland, which all share amazing landscapes and dark winters that are perfect for Northern Lights viewing.

Sweden is only one of two countries that has remained unaffected by wars or military alliances, and is allegedly one of the happiest countries in the world.

Destinations include the capital city of Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmo and the Norrland provinces to the north.

QUICK SWEDEN FACTS

Currency: Swedish krona can be withdrawn from ATMs throughout Sweden, however keep in mind that smaller cities or towns may not have access to ATMs and its recommended to withdraw cash and take it with you.

Power Points: Most power points are the same as most other European power points (2 circular prongs). I would recommend you take a Travel Adapter especially for non Europeans.

Official Language: The official language of Sweden is Swedish.

Health: There are no major health concerns in Sweden for travellers however Tick-borne encephalitis and Lyme disease are risks in the country areas. I would recommend that you contact your doctor a few weeks before you travel as in some cases you need to start any medication a few days before your trip or you may need to get a vaccination.

Drinking Tap Water: The tap water is generally safe to drink, however, if you are unsure, make sure to ask your hotel receptionist or host.

Visa: Most countries don’t require a visa for short stays, to visit Sweden.

Popular foods:
Pickled herring (herring fish in strong vinegar, water, salt and various different spices).,
Kroppkakor (potato dumplings filled with fried pork).
Meatballs (usually served with mashed potato and lingonberry sauce).
– Sweet Roll (wheat bun, flavored with cardamom, filled with almond paste and whipped cream).

When to go: May through September are the ideal months to travel to Sweden for pleasant weather and sunshine. Go between late November and March if you want snow. The country is open all year, however in the winter you should dress warmly. Visit during the height of summer (June and July) to see the midnight sun.
