Arrival –

We arrived at Peppers Blue on Blue to the very large and open planned reception area. The reception desk on the left, Endota Spa on the right with 2 large “day beds” in the middle of the reception area (which were extremely comfortable to lay on, I could have easily fallen asleep waiting for our group).

Our arrival at the hotel was met with a large, friendly smile from the receptionist, we were checked in fairly quickly and provided with direction to our rooms (there were 4 of us in separate rooms).

Room –

My room was located on the top floor which provided great views, however make sure to take the elevator if you’re on level 2 and above as I dragged my 20kg+ luggage up 3 flights of stairs unnecessarily!

This was because I was not advised of where the elevator was- so make sure you confirm this when you check in as sometimes the staff might have a lot to talk to you about eg: breakfast, restaurant, opening times, the pools etc, it might slip their mind.

I was booked into a Marina view hotel room which had a very large king size bed, en-suite and balcony.

The bathroom had a wonderful rainfall shower (my favourite!), the water pressure was perfect and so was the temperature. The bathroom amenities were “Essentials by Peppers” with generous amounts of soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion.

The views from the balcony overlooked the marina, which was filled with sailing yachts for the Magnetic Island Race week and in the background were views of Mount Cook National Park.

The room was equipped with a small bar fridge and a fully stopped mini bar and a pod coffee machine, as well as a decent sized TV.

However if a hotel room is too small for you, Peppers Blue on Blue also offer 1,2 & 3 bedroom apartments for larger families or longer stays, these are fully equipped with kitchen and laundry facilities. Some of the larger apartments also have small plunge pool!

Housekeeping –

The room was immaculate at all times, each day the room was made up to be in the same condition I first saw it in.

Pool –

The Peppers Blue on Blue has 2 pools, one is a smaller “Resort swimming pool” with views over the Marina and Mount Cook National Park and the much larger “Lagoon swimming pool”, this is said to be the largest (or at least one of the largest) swimming pools in the southern hemisphere.

The Lagoon pool stretches almost as wide as the hotel, its follows the hotel around and makes its easier for guest to get into the pool rather than having to walk far to it.

There are also BBQ facilities if you want to have a BBQ around the pool.

Food –

We had a full buffet breakfast included in our room rate, (which was served in the restaurant) which was fantastic, there was a large spread of hot breakfast foods such as bacon and eggs (and yummy little mushrooms in butter…yummmy!), cold breakfast foods such as fruit, yoghurt and muesli and breads and pastries.

As well as different hot beverages to choose from, including expresso made by the staff or an espresso machine that guests can operate, or several different types of teas.

We also had an amazing dinner at Boardwalk Restaurant & Bar with the new General Manager Stefan Kracke, the food was fantastic.

I had the equivalent to “surf and turf” which was a very generous serving of steak, mash potato and a few prawns with a “pie crust” topping. My dessert was just as amazing, I ordered the chocolate tart with orange slices, it had just the right amount of rich, creamy chocolate.

The service was a little slow to start but it was quite busy when we arrived (due to the race week) however it didn’t impact our dinner and in fact the staff remembered our drink orders including a special request from one of the ladies at our table, who usually asked for a glass of ice when she ordered a glass of wine and each time she order a glass of wine, the waiting staff remembered the glass of ice, that’s what I call attention to detail.

Spa –

This was the only “downer” for me (not in the way you are thinking!), I’m so sad I didn’t get to try out the treatments here! Endota has such a fantastic reputation!!! Oh well, it’s a great excuse for me to come back! Having a look at the menu in the room, the prices are fairly reasonable.

Location –

The Peppers Blue on Blue is just to the left of the ferry terminal at Nelly Bay, no need to wait to catch a taxi, jump come off the ferry and walk straight over, so easy!

There is an IGA Supermarket just down the road for any additional needs, however the hotels provides most of what you need to have a great time.

General Summary –

I really loved the Peppers Blue on Blue, the proximity to the ferry was very handy and the fact that the IGA is just around the corner in case I had forgotten to bring something was great.

You can also hire a “topless” car just around the corner, which is a great way to get around the island. The pools and the restaurant are both great facilities and well maintained.

The service was fairly good throughout our stay however there is room for improvement, which I have faith that Stefan will make some great changes to the Peppers Blue on Blue to make this resort the best it can be.

I can’t wait to come back again and try out the spa!!!
