Business Class review of Singapore Airlines Adelaide to Beijing

Flight review of Adelaide to Singapore

Flight time: approx 7 hours 30 minutes

Stop over time: 8 hours

Plane type – Airbus A330-300

Seats 12K & 12H

Check in:

What had me excited about flying business class with Singapore airlines wasn’t just the large comfortable seating and leg room but the ability to “skip the line” when it came to check in. I absolutely hate standing in line for anything (as snobby as that sounds). We arrived at the Adelaide Airport and found the Singapore airlines business class check in line and within minutes we were happily on our way.

SilverKris Lounge in Adelaid

SilverKris lounge:

The SilverKris Lounge in Adelaide is located near gate 18 down the escalators once you have gone through customs. As this was our first experience in a club lounge we did not know what to expect however it was comfortable, a lot of seats, different types of food and newspapers and magazines to read and of course the all important WIFI. We were advised we would be told when we could board however we wandered up to the gate before boarding.

While in the lounge I asked the attendant for a pair of scissors (forgetting where I was), she looked a little shocked and then regain her composure and asked why I needed them, I explained I had snagged my top and wanted to cut a piece off before it ruined the top, the lady kindly cut the piece of thread off for me.

Seats:

There are only 5 rows of business class seats on the A330-300, in a 2-2-2 configuration, this configuration is great for couples however if you are a solo traveller you can always use the central divider to add a bit of extra privacy. The inclined-flat seat (with a gentle 8-degree incline) provides a lot of room to wiggle around in and due to the flat seat you are actually able to sleep, not that you really wanted to with all the great food and movies on board!

The seats are very spacious ad very comfortable, you are able to control the different angles of different sections of the seat for different comfort levels. What I looked about business class seating was I didn’t feel guilty reclining and taking up someone’s leg room, the seats have their own little enclosed “box”, it was also great because I was able to lay mostly flat (my choice to avoid back ache) and stretch my arm out – bliss!

These seats have a lot of little storage areas, USB and Power point to ensure you are able to work on your laptop if need be. Once you are finished working on your laptop there is a side sleeve you can put your laptop in so that you don’t need to get up and store it in the overhead locker.

The 12K is a great spot because it’s a window seat however as you are enclosed it means you have to climb over the person next to you to go to the bathroom, I would suggest if you are a solo traveller you opt for a seat in the middle to avoid the unnecessary and awkward “climb over”.

Entertainment:

The 15.4Inch sized Tv’s are located in the back of the pod in front of you with the control on the side of your seat, a few things that annoyed me about this was that if I moved too much it would bump the control and change what I was watching and the screen on the control was fairly bright and hard to “hide” from when you are trying to sleep.

The Krisworld inflight entertainment system offers over a 100 movies, 170 TV series, 740 music CDs and 80 games, you are never left bored, including new blockbusters that are only just coming out in cinemas in Australia.

The headsets provided as Bose QuietComfort 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones which do cut out a lot of plane noise ensuring you can get completely caught up in your movie, however I did find with my pair that there was a bit of a high pitch whine and I didn’t think to ask the flight attendants for a new pair – silly me.

Food:

As soon as we arrived on the flight we were served with a glass of Taittinger champagne (or given the option for a different drink), we were also asked what we would like to drink after take-off.

Shortly after take-off the crew came around with our fresh beverages and also took our foo orders.

The Entrée:

Marinated Prawns with mesclun, grapefruit –orange segments and tomato salsa dressing.

Singapore airlines also offers several types of white wines, red wines, a port, several cocktails and many different types of teas and coffee, there is certainly no shortage of choice.

With each meal our tray tables were set with a white lines table cloth and we were provided with silver cutlery and glass drinking (glasses???), no plastic in business class.

We were a little blown away by the food, it is a significant different from economy which I guess you would expect but it still left us very impressed, I would say it is easily restaurant quality food in taste and presentation!

Service:

The service as you would expect in business class was impeccable! The cabin crew were very professional but very warm, they made sure to keep us well fed and “watered” throughout the flight.

We were left absolutely blown away as half way through our flight the whole cabin crew came over and gave us a beautiful cake, 2 glasses of champagne, a little Singapore airlines teddy and a handmade card to congratulate us on our 3rd wedding anniversary, they all congratulated us and made us feel really special!!

These cakes can be requested for all classes of travel with a choice of three types of cakes/arrangements: honeymoon, anniversary and birthday. However they do require at least 48 hours notice to arrange.

Flight time: approx

Plane type – Boeing 777-200ER

Seats 12K & 12H

SilverKris Club Business Class lounge:

We spent 90% our 8 hour layover relaxing in the amazing SilverKris Club Business Class lounge in Changi Airport. The lounge has plenty of seating and while we were there it went from fairly empty to people wondering around looking for a free seat! There was a good selection of good and beverages to enjoy while you wait for your next flight. There were also 2 walls of magazines and newspapers to read.

The bathrooms were fairly large with plenty of facilities for people Including large showers.

Seats:

(The seats were the same as the above flight) There are only 7-8 rows of business class seats on the Boeing 777-200ER, in a 2-2-2 configuration. The inclined-flat seat were exactly the same as our previous flight which was great as we knew exactly what position was comfortable.

The seats are very spacious ad very comfortable, you are able to control the different angles of different sections of the seat for different comfort levels. These seats were located at the bulk head which was great because I didn’t have to climb over Pete as much if I needed to get up however it was very close to the galley which meant you occasionally got disturbed by the light coming through the curtain.

These seats have a lot of little storage areas, USB and Power point to ensure you are able to work on your laptop if need be. However there were not as many storage places on the bulkhead.

Food:

We were served breakfast either just after take off or 2 hours before landing which was:

Onion Ciabatta with Prosciutto and Swiss cheese

Selection of Dim Sum, Singapore Nasi Lemak, American Breakfast or Continental Breakfast

Sliced fresh fruit was also served along with a selection of gourmet coffees and a selection of fine teas.

Service:

The service was classic of Singapore Airlines, very professional but still warm and friendly.

We had to detour to Shanghai due to bad visibility at Beijing airport, all of the crew and pilots made sure that we knew what was going on at all times and when landing at Shanghai they organized for some food to be delivered to the plane as they were unsure how long the delay would be. After an hour an a half we took off again and were on our way to Beijing.

I would like to mention that the pilots are incredible (in my eyes!) when approaching Beijing airport you could hardly see and the pilots landed the air planes very well!

  1. Awesome. What a fun post. Congrats on your 3rd wedding anniversary too. 🙂 Glad you guys were spoilt. I have never flown Business Class, or with Singapore Airlines. We are flying Etihad at Christmas, our travel agent is working on an upgrade. Fingers crossed. Digging the tukka served, looks nicely presented which Im sure makes things taste better. Hope you are both well, the countdown until Santa is on now. #boom

  2. nice gesture by the crew to congratulate you on your anniversary. As regular SQ business class traveller and PPS club member I would expect similar kind of service. But when I took SQ business class flight from Moscow to Singapore this year on my birthday there wasn’t any acknowledgement from the crew. I was really surprised.
So I’m wondering if it is my bad luck or it is you being lucky.

  3. Well done & congrats Samantha!
I just want to concur with you on the wonderful experience that your partner & you had was exactly what my wife & I found during our European honeymoon from Perth to Amsterdam, and returning Paris to Perth. It’s so good to read your posts which have articulated our own sentiments well too! kudos to the SIA crew, and let’s keep the faith that our next trip will be equally magical 🙂
    cheers
    Ken from Perth

  4. HI Glazov,
    Sorry that you were disappointed!
I guess from an airline point of view (I’m guessing) they have 10000000s of travellers everyday and it might be difficult to always acknowledge people on their birthday or even check when their birthday is. I’m sure they didn’t intentionally ignore your birthday.
In this case we requested the Anniversary cake however the bubbles, teddy and card was a complete surprise. The reason we featured this was because not many people know about this feature and if they are booking tickets for loved ones they can surprise them or you could request this for yourself 🙂

Maybe put through a suggestion or feedback im sure that SIA would be more than happy to take your comment on board, given you are a PPS club member and a regular flyer, having feedback from customers makes a massive difference and Im sure if it is possible maybe this is something they can implement to help them stand out in the very competitive airline market

  5. What a great experience, the food looks absolutely amazing. We were due to fly to Australia from the UK on Singapore Airlines in just over a week but have had to change our plans. Unfortunately we were only travelling economy but I have been told that even at that level the service is fantastic; it was the many reason we booked with them and I have to say with all of the personal problems we have had recently and with a need to postpone flights the customer service team have been fantastic. We hope to be able to fly with them soon.

Congratulations on your 3rd anniversary. 🙂

  6. I feel fancy just reading about this! Haha. Those seats look so comfy. And I can’t believe they even brought you guys cake! Awesome. And Happy Anniversary! 🙂
