A Luxury Hotel Review of Shangri-La Xian

Arrival –

We were met at the airport by a hotel rep and taken to the car, where we drove 30-45mins to the Shangri-La Xian. When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by Yoyo who was a guest relations officer, Ruby the communications manager and the lovely Jean-Philippe Jacopin the hotel’s general manager.

From the car we were taken directly to our room and Yoyo checked us in, after check in, Yoyo showed us around the room and explained the features and how to use the aircon. Shortly after we met Ruby at Tian Xiang Ge.

Room –

We were booked into the Horizon Club King room which was located on the Horizon club floor (I love the club room!). The Horizon Club King room is an approx. 38 sqm room with an en-suite bathroom (including a rainfall shower and a bathtub) along with floor-to-ceiling windows which offer fantastic views of the city.

This room comes also comes with a large screen LCD TV with various international channels as well as a full stocked mini bar to meet all of your needs.

The bathroom has a small TV to use while you are relaxing in the bath, the only trouble with this, was it took me forever to get Pete out of the bath!

The Horizon Club King room also gives you with exclusive access to the Horizon Club Lounge (which we go into more detail below)

Pool –

The hotel offers an 25 meter heated indoor swimming pool which is open from 6am til 11pm.

Dining options –

The Shangri-La Xian has 3 Restaurants & 1 Bar:

Siam Garden Siam Garden serves the finest traditional Thai cuisine in Xian, which signature dishes such as Gai Hor Bai Tuey (Deep-fried marinated chicken with traditional Thai spices), Naam Si Klong Moo Chop Kai (Deep-fried pork spare ribs marinated with garlic and chilli, served with rice.), Ka Por Pla Nam Dang (Braised fish maw “Thai style” with mushroom, bamboo shoot, quail egg and condiments.)  and Tab Tim Krob (Water chestnut wrapped in tapioca flour, served in coconut milk.)

Tian Xiang Ge – which serves authentic Cantonese cuisine, their hallmark is from traditional dim sum to freshly made noodles, this restaurant is perfect for guests or clients who prefer privacy, as this restaurant features private dining rooms offering both modern and traditional décor.

Yi Café – The gourmet showcases spectacular live cooking stations that present cuisines from China, South-East Asia, Japan and Europe, offering a broad range of foods and buffets.

Horizon club Lounge –

The Horizon club lounge and all lounges in the Shangri-la group are my favourite, the service is excellent, the seating is comfortable and the food is plentiful.

When booking a Horizon Club Room, you gain access to the wonderful Horizon Club!!! Where you can enjoy daily buffet breakfast, evening cocktails and canapés, all day beverages, free Wi-Fi and the option of a late 4pm check out if needed (depending on availability of course). Another special feature of the club rooms/lounge is, when booking a wake-up call, you will also receive a hot beverage such as a coffee or tea to help you start your day on the right foot!

Chi Spa –

We unfortunately did not get the chance to try the spa however the Chi spa has a very good reputation throughout all Shangri-La’s and we have tried many treatments through the Shangri-La’s and we always leave happy and relaxed.

Location –

The Shangri-la Xian is located very close to are the Century Ginwa and Golden Eagle shopping centres, the Xian city wall and Muslim street. The hotel is 30 mins from the main international airport in Xian and is only a 45 min drive from the world-famous Terra-Cotta Warriors Museum.

Staff worth a Special mention –

Yoyo – our lovely hostess who took us checked us into our room and made sure to tell us all about the room features and the hotel.

Annie –located in the business centre, Annie along with Ruby (communications manager) assisted us in re-booking flights and got us an excellent price of business class flights!! We are so grateful for their help as we had such an awful experience trying to re-book our flights.

Christine – in the club lounge always had a smile on her face and made sure to make us feel welcome and comfortable in the lounge.

Last but certainly not least Ruby (communications manager) – Ruby fielded several emails from me before our arrival, with change of dates and requests for feather pillows, she was brilliant, nothing was too hard! We are also extremely grateful for her assistance with re-booking our flights, I’m sure she had better things to do however she stuck around to assist us and make sure everything was perfect.

Hotel Review of Shangri-La Xian

Did the hotel fulfil our requests? –

As above.

Did we have any issues during our stay –

Not at all everything was fantastic! Not an “issue” however I would like to comment on how lovely it was to see Jean-Philippe Jacopin (the general manager) so involved in improving the hotel and the services, we noticed a massive difference from one night to the next in the club room, change comes from the top and flows down, it’s great to see a GM so involved with his staff.

Would we stay here again? –

Definitely, the hotel is in a brilliant location and the level of luxury is superb.

General Summary –

While the hotel is located in the middle of the city, it certainly doesn’t feel this way, the hotel is warm and homey, it is highly recommended for both business and leisure guests.

The business centre has fantastic facilities and there is always staff around to assist, all you need to do is ask.

The chandeliers and amazing lighting are ridiculously beautiful and very classy and they are everywhere!!! The Shangri-La really does pride themselves on grand entrances and over the top (in a good way!) chandeliers hanging from the roof. This is one of my favourite things about the Shangri-La properties, I love walking around looking at all of the beautiful lights.

  1. Oh! What a hotel. Shangri La never disappoints no matter where they are located. Wish i could see the staffers, Yoyo and Annie’s photo. Both their names match my guide and hostess’ too. I visited there last year.

  2. WOWZA, looks amazing. I have never stayed in a Shangri La before, but often, paying that little extra totally makes for an extra special stay. Love that you were so well looked after too. I have some friends who were checking in on the 5th, I do hope they enjoy their experience as much as you did. 🙂
