Banyan Tree Resort Bangkok – Hotel Review

Banyan Tree Resort Bangkok

Banyan Tree Resort Bangkok is not really in the best place for tourists but it is in the best place for relaxation, located in the financial district means that you need to catch a taxi or go for a long walk to get to the “tourist areas”, but I found it relaxing here as we were able to sit by the pool and watch the city go by.

Arrival –

We were picked up from the airport in a Luxury Mercedes. The driver was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable about Bangkok and told us about many things on the way to the hotel. As this was our first time in Bangkok, the advice he gave was very helpful! Check in was quick and easy. We got a yummy fruit drink while they told us about the hotel and what the club room offers.

Room –

We booked a Banyan Tree Club room (king). This room had a giant king bed, a separate living area and a large bathroom, with a bath, a his and hers sink and a rainfall shower (which we were unable to work out how to use? Maybe it was broken or we were silly and unable to work it.)

We were located on the 24th floor which had a nice view of the city and the pool.
Each night you get a different little present at turn down. This was such a nice touch.

Service –

The service was fantastic no matter where we went, no matter what the staff were doing when we walked past, they would stop and say hello.
We didn’t have any issues with language barriers at Banyan Tree, everyone understood and spoken English very well. Also happy to help!

Club room –

The club room staff were always very friendly and helpful. The breakfast spread in the morning was great. You can get the freshest honey, straight from the honeycomb!!

Pool –

We didn’t really use the pool but we did have lunch next to the pool one afternoon. Great service (once again) and lovely view. We did notice that the staff took great care with cleaning the pool. We saw 2 staff members cleaning the pool with toothbrushes and scrubbing brushes.

Food –

We dined at the Club room , Vertigo and Aspara.

The club room was great each day it had Buffet Breakfast and evening Canapés. Both very nice! I think it also had free soft drinks all day. The spread of the Breakfast and Evening Canapés were very nice, something for everyone. They also offered small tastings of food from each of the restaurants (during the evening canapés).

Vertigo was an amazing experience. The service was impeccable! We were given giant menus with little torches to be able to read the menus! We didn’t try the set menu as we haven’t had much of an appetite since we arrived in Thailand. The food was very very nice and the view was breathtaking! The staff came around with a camera and took a photo of us and then disappeared and reappeared about 15mins later with a photo for us to take home! This really adds to the experience. The staff also offered several times to take photos for us (I love photos and being in a couple it is hard to get photos together).

We booked to try the Aspara, we were taken from the hotel to “River City” to begin our Aspara dinner cruise. We found this to be a little annoying as we sat around for about an hour and a half til the cruise was ready, there is not that much in River City to do and no where really to sit. It would have been nicer to take us to the cruise a little bit later or have a section where we can sit and relax while we wait.
The barge was really nice I think it’s a Thai rice barge. We had 5 courses of dinner, which we were not able to even come close to finishing as there is just so much food (which is a good thing!) and my poor husband wasn’t well. We learnt a bit about the buildings along the Chao Phraya river and some history about Bangkok.

We stopped to have a photo taken outside the King and queen’s palace and once again the staff came around with a camera and took a photo of us and then disappeared and reappeared about 15mins later with a photo for us to take home! Such a lovely touch!
We were then driven back to the hotel by the hotel van.

Spa –

We had a body wrap at the body at the spa (I had the Coffee & honey scrub and my husband had a Salt scrub). We were greeted in the waiting room and taken down to the spa area. It is like another world down there! So pretty!
They led us into the room and asked us to get changed. Then they gave us a lovely foot rub, to cleanse our feet.
We jumped onto the massage bed and the therapists started the scrub. You get a lovely massage too. We had a shower after the scrub and another massage! Once they are finished we got dressed and head back upstairs and have a yummy fruit salad and ginger tea. They were so professional and friendly.

We also received a very nice 10 min neck and shoulder massage in the club room that was included in our room. It was pure relaxation it feels like hours!!

Location –

We don’t really know enough about Bangkok to know if this is a good location. It is a short walk to Silom road. I have read a review not too long ago that says there is no traffic light or bridge to cross the road safely. There is a traffic light just a few doors down from the hotel, there is also a bridge/walk way a few hundred metres down the road, i would suggest to cross over at the bridge as it is much safer if you are new to Bangkok traffic.

There is also a 7/11 across the road. The hotel offers a shuttle to the skytrain. Try to take the skytrain or walk places as catching a taxi can take sometime especially in peak hour traffic. In saying that it only cost is $100B to get form the hotel to a local shopping mall 5km away.

Staff worth special mention –

Beer & Tokky made our dining experience on the Aspara amazing!
Pratch & Ratree From the club room, they were both very helpful and chatty!
Also the therapists that did our massage! (didn’t write down their name sorry, I was in a dream state!)

General Summary –

Overall had a great stay, didn’t run into any problems and can’t fault anything at Banyan Tree! We were very sad to leave! After travelling to 3 other cities within Thailand. All hotels were compared to Banyan tree and a few were very disappointing… You have set a very high standards for us! Thank you for the amazing stay!
