Climb the Bell Tower of St. Domnius

Located inside the Diocletian’s Palaces is the St. Domnius Cathedral. This octagonal cathedral is one of the best-preserved ancient Roman buildings that’s still intact to this day.

Officially, it was built as a mausoleum for Diocletian, the last famous persecutor of the Christians, and now serves as an educational and historical attraction.

An original colonnade of 24 columns encircles the old exterior of the building, and a bell tower was added later.

This tall bell tower offers a great panoramic view of the city.  As you climb the steps to the top, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the city, surrounding islands, and the shimmering Adriatic Sea.

Other areas you can explore at the St. Domnius are the crypt, treasury and baptistery (Temple of Jupiter).

Of course, you must take advantage of good food while on tour! Located just near Marjan Forest Park (which will be your next stop) and the scenic viewpoint of Marjan Hill is Kat’s Kitchen Deli.

We added this to your three days in Split itinerary as it is considered one of the best brunch spots in Split, Croatia. It’s only open daily from 8 am to 3 pm, so they specialise in the Brunch menu.

Aside from the excellent menu, Kat’s also offers interior and exterior seating in a peaceful garden-like setting, perfect for easing into your day.

Hike Marjan Hill

Just a few minutes from the Split Old Town is the Marjan Forest Park, that takes up a big part of Split. It is one of the most famous destinations for nature enthusiasts who are in the country to visit.

Marjan Forest Park is massive, having several mazes of walking paths, countless staircases and a trek to hike. We suggest you do this during your 3 day trip to Split – hike the Marjan Hill.

The views from atop the hill are spectacular, and even as you ascend, you’ll already encounter viewpoints where you can pause to take in the stunning vistas of Split, the coastline, and the nearby islands.

Different paths will lead you to the hill, so booking a tour guide is highly recommended. If you still need to, you can always research earlier to checkout which path will be better for you.

Marjan Hill is a great spot for sunset, if you want to change your itinerary around a little.

A trip to Split Croatia will only be complete with indulging in authentic Dalmatian cuisine! The best palace to experience is dining in one of the most famous local eateries in Split, Konoba Fetivi

Konoba in English means tavern, and in Konoba Fetivi, you can enjoy traditional-Croatian dishes, including fresh seafood, grilled meats, and flavorful local specialities.

A family of different generations has run this restaurant for over 300 years, and depends on the season for its ingredients. This has made it a particular restaurant, not only for tourists but a lot of locals as well.

Day 2 in Split Croatia

Breakfast at Bepa!

A great way to start your second day at Split Croatia is to have breakfast at Bepa! This trendy café is a few minutes from the Diocletian’s Palace, which offers a quaint, cosy interior and expansive outdoor patio.

Here you can grab pastries, freshly brewed coffee, and the option to choose from an array of tasty breakfast options. They even offer gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options, too, so you don’t have to worry about inclusivity.

Explore the Split Green Market

After getting a hearty meal, head to Split’s Green Market, locally known as Paza. This local market is the best place to immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture of the city.

Located on the city’s eastern side, this bustling market is where the locals usually visit for daily groceries. Several stalls are filled with colourful fruits, vegetables, local cheeses, and traditional delicacies.

You can also find different stalls selling spirits, beachwear and souvenirs here, and as you walk your way through, gladly engage with the friendly vendors, sample some of the fresh produce, and soak up the lively atmosphere.

If you do not have a rented car, booking a day tour charter is suggested to take you to the Krka National Park. As you arrive there, there’s so much you can do – from taking a stroll along the wooden pathways to swimming at the waterfalls.

You have seven waterfalls you can swim at, and one among them is the waterfall called Roski Slap, also called Necklace by locals because of its facade.

Day 3 in Split Croatia

Quick breakfast bite at Zaidy’s Deli & Bakery

Your third day in Croatia will require you to leave early, so getting a quick bite for breakfast is best. Zaidy’s Deli & Bakery is a local favourite for pastries, bagels and breakfast entrees. They are already open at 7 AM, so it’s a perfect place to get a quick breakfast.

Try their smoked fish platter with bagel or potato latkes for something more traditional. If you want something to go, you can always grab some coffee and a pastry to bring with you.

Half-Day Trip to Hvar Island

As mentioned earlier, you must leave Split early for your third day. This is because you’ll be going on a day trip to one of Dalmatian’s islands, Hvar.

Hvar Island is a popular day destination among travellers visiting Split Croatia. Ideally, you’ll have to spend one day here to immerse yourself in the island’s culture and practices, but a few hours is enough to explore significant landmarks.

You’ll have to hop on an early ferry and rent your scooter or car on the island to explore it. But we highly recommend getting on a Speedboat tour to Hvar for this itinerary. Not only will you save time travelling, but you also get to experience something new!

One at the island,  you can wander through its narrow streets, visit the historic sites, and soak up the Mediterranean atmosphere. Of course, enjoy the island’s picturesque beaches and breathtaking views from the Spanish Fortress.

Owned and managed by a local family, you are guaranteed to enjoy authentic gourmet dishes crafted with locally sourced ingredients – from fresh seafood to creative vegetarian options – all these can be significantly paired with some good wine.

Bokeria Kitchen & Wine is a big restaurant compared to other local eats in Split. Still, it does not fail to keep the interior cosy and comfortable, just enough to make diners enjoy their food happily.

Explore the Split Archaeological Museum

Since you’ve been visiting outdoor areas for the past few days, we also included in these 3 days in the split Itinerary a visit to the Split Archaeological Museum. Whether you are a history enthusiast (or not), this museum is a must-visit.

Split Archeological Museum is the oldest museum in all of Croatia. It was established under a decree by the Dalmatian government in 1820 and is filled with hundreds (even thousands) of archaeological finds from Croatia.

You don’t have to pay anything to visit the museum, but other exhibitions or galleries inside will ask you for a small fee to enter.

Visit the Klis Fortress

If you are a fan of the famous Game of Thrones series, you’ll enjoy the next stop – Klis Fortress. The  Klis Fortress is a medieval fortress strategically located on a rocky ridge above Split.

It has witnessed centuries of history, where parts of fortified walls, towers, and chambers still stand.
