Travel to Finland

Finland Destination

Bordering Sweden, Norway and Russia, Finland is a study in extremes. Helsinki, the capital city, is a fashion forward design hub, while northern Finland is an outdoor adventure paradise.

The northernmost region, Lapland, draws visitors from all over the world, hoping to see the Northern Lights and engaging in Arctic activities like dog-sledding and snowshoeing. The offshore Archipelago is also a popular summer destination in Finland.

Currency: Finland uses the Euro as their currency which can be withdrawn from ATMs throughout Finland, however keep in mind that smaller cities or towns may not have access to ATMs and its recommended to withdraw cash and take it with you.

Power Points: Most power points are the same as most other European power points (2 circular prongs). Obviously I would recommend you take a Travel Adapter especially for non Europeans.

Official Language: The official language of Finland is Swedish.

Health: There are no major health concerns in Finland for travellers, however in forest areas or to the Aland Islands, tick-borne encephalitis is a risk. I would recommend that you contact your doctor a few weeks before you travel as in some cases you need to start any medication a few days before your trip or you may need to get a vaccination.

Drinking Tap Water: The tap water is perfectly safe to Finland.

Visa: Most countries don’t require a visa for short stays, to visit Finland.

Popular foods:
Salmon soup (salmon soup includes salmon, some potatoes and carrots).
– Macaroni Casserole (macaroni and minced meat and a milk and egg mixed together).
– Karelian Pie (rye pastry crust that is filled with savory rice pudding).
– Reindeer Stew (usually paired with mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam).
– Lingonberries Pie (served warm straight from the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream).

When to go: Finland is most enjoyable to visit in the summer months of June, July, and August when the weather is nicest, the days are the longest, and the landscape is at its most beautiful. In northern Finland, the northern lights are most visible from the end of August to April.
