What is the ideal honeymoon destination? It is somewhere where you can make memories with your new spouse and relax after the stress of planning a wedding. It’s romantic, luxurious, a little bit exotic, and somewhere you might not have chosen to visit otherwise. Mauritius ticks all of those boxes and this honeymoon guide to Mauritius will show you exactly how to plan a Mauritius honeymoon.

Mauritius is known for being a very remote African island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. It’s known for its unique blend of French, Creole, Indian and African cultures. This island is also known for its incredible resorts, stunning natural landscapes and delicious local cuisine. These are all essential qualities in all great honeymoon destinations!

Due to the island’s location, it also has a unique climate and only two discernible seasons; summer and winter though the winter seasons are still pleasant. Summer lasts from October to April and Winter from April to October.

Book your romantic Mauritius honeymoon from April to June or from September to December to avoid the highest peak seasons. Heavy rainfall is usually forecast from February to March and you don’t want your honeymoon to be a washout!

This is the ultimate Mauritius honeymoon guide that will help you plan your once-in-a-lifetime trip to Mauritius with your partner. It includes the best neighbourhoods in Mauritius, the best hotels in Mauritius for honeymoon trips, and the best romantic activities. This Mauritius honeymoon guide also includes the best tours, day trips, and places to eat so you have a honeymoon you will never forget.

Where To Go in Mauritius on Your Honeymoon

Mauritius consists of nine districts from north to south: Rivière du Rempart, Pamplemousses, Port Louis (the capital), Flacq, Moka, Black River, Plaines Wilhems, Grand Port and Savanne.

If you’re looking for Mauritius honeymoon all-inclusive resorts and luxury places to stay, there are three neighbourhoods in three different districts that stand out.

Grand Bay (Grand Baie)

This neighbourhood is in the Pamplemousses district and is the northernmost neighbourhood on this list. It’s a bustling seaside city which is ideal for honeymooners who cannot sit still and love visiting restaurants, bars, clubs, beaches, shops, and everything in between.

Lots of luxury resorts line the promenade so you won’t have any problems finding hotels with sea views. Just don’t expect a relaxing or peaceful honeymoon here!

Belle Mare

If a secluded and serene honeymoon is your goal, stay in Belle Mare instead. It’s in the Flaq district on the western coast and it’s known for having the most epic Mauritius honeymoon private villas and hotels, a beautiful coastline for sailing and the quietest beaches.

Flic en Flac

Based in the Black River district on the eastern coast below the capital of Port Louis, Flic en Flac is ideal for honeymooners who love natural beauty.

It also has world-class, five-star resorts (most of the best neighbourhoods in Mauritius do!) but it also has a pristine 8km-long beach and is close to all of Mauritius’s natural wonders in the south of the island.

Important information on Mauritius for Your Honeymoon

Unless you have an African or Middle Eastern passport, you should be able to travel to Mauritius visa-free for 90 days. Double-check with your government before booking your honeymoon. Always purchase travel insurance before any trip, especially one outside of your home country.

Mauritius has clean and safe drinking water so you don’t have to buy bottled water here. Most of the food is delicious and safe to eat but always take extra care when eating new spicy foods or buying food from street vendors.

Mauritius’s currency is the Mauritian Rupee. 50 Rupees is worth approximately €1 at the time of writing. You can use credit cards in establishments like hotels and fancier restaurants but you will need cash for market stalls, tipping, and other small payments.

English is the official language of Mauritius. The locals also speak a mixture of French, French-Creole, Mauritian-Creole, and many south Asian languages like Hindi and Tamil.

If you want to travel short distances on your honeymoon in Mauritius, the most convenient transport is taxis. Book them through your hotel or resort so that you know how much the journey will cost and what reputable companies to use. Take a card so you can use the same company on your return journey.

You can also hire scooters, a car, or bicycles to explore the island at your own pace. Private tours and drivers are also an option if you have the cash to splash.

Wondering about the Mauritius honeymoon cost? Expect to pay up to €600 per night for the very best resorts in peak season. Return flights from Europe to Mauritius can cost anything from €500 – €1,000.
