Ciutadella – Where to stay in Menorca for tourists

At the western end of the island, Ciutadella de Menorca is a port city and arrival point for ferries coming from Barcelona.

Ciutadella is known for a historic Old Town area, with an interesting mix of Baroque, Gothic and Roman architecture. The harbor area is particularly picturesque, with several Menorca hotels just a short walk away.

There are no Menorca beaches directly in Ciutadella, but they are just a short bus ride away. This makes Ciutadella the best area for tourists who are looking for a cultural experience beyond the beach hotels and resorts.

As an added bonus, some of the best beach resorts in Menorca Spain are located along the coast just south of Ciutadella.

Wondering where to stay in Menorca without a car? Ciutadella is the best place to stay in Menorca without a car because its a centralised area and popular with tourists. You can easily walk to the beach or the city centre.

Mahón – Where to stay in Menorca on a budget

Another city option is to stay in Mahón, the capital of Menorca. Mahon Menorca is sometimes just called Maó and is connected by ferry to Valencia, Barcelona and Palma, Mallorca.

Much like Ciutadella, Mahón has a harbor area and an Old Town, as well as unique architecture from various periods of history.

As the island is only 40 minutes across, you can easily visit any of the Menorca beaches, or Ciutadella, on a day trip from Mahón.

Mahón has more transit connections than Ciutadella so if you do not plan to rent a car in Menorca, then this can be the deciding factor for you.

This is also the best area for tourists who are looking for a budget-friendly place to stay in Menorca.
