Old Town Ljubljana- Where to stay in Ljubljana for first timers

As with many European cities, the Old Town area represents the heart of the historic city. Many of Ljubljana’s best attractions can be found in Old Town, including the Ljubljana Castle, the Dragon Bridge and Ljubljana Cathedral.

The Robba fountain is another must-see attraction in Ljubljana and if you want a great aerial view of the city, just hop on the funicular to head up the hill.

Prefer for first timers and tourists as it’s based in a central location, making getting around to see the sights super easy.

The winding cobblestone streets are filled with shops, restaurants and cafes serving traditional Slovenian cuisine.

Whether you are looking for budget accommodation or something a bit more upscale, Old Town is the best location to stay in Ljubljana for first-time visitors looking to experience the history and culture of Slovenia.

City Centre – Where to stay in Ljubljana for nightlife

Across the Ljubljanica River from Old Town is the more modern city centre of Ljubljana. You’ll find a wider array of accommodation options here, and the Old Town is just a stroll across the Triple Bridge.

Some of the best nightlife in Ljubljana can be found in the city centre, but there are also cultural attractions, including museums and art galleries in the city centre, including the National Museum of Slovenia.

Shopping is also a main attraction in this area, with international brands alongside Slovenian designers.

If the faster pace of the city centre gets to be too much, just head a few blocks west to Tivoli Park, the largest city park in town, with over five square kilometers of green space. You’ll find formal gardens, the city zoo, walking paths and picnic areas.

Mirje – Where to stay in Ljubljana with family

On the outskirts of the city center is the suburban area of Mirje. This leafy neighborhood is a great place for families to stay in Ljubljana, yet is still in each reach of Old Town, with Ljubljana Castle just a 25 minute walk from Mirje.

Historians will love this area, as you can see the original Roman town walls from 15 AD, which were restored in the 1930’s. Inside the walls is a park you can enjoy. Check out one of the best neighborhoods in Ljubljana!

Krakovo – Where to stay in Ljubljana for tourists

East of Mirje and just south of the city center is Ljubljana’s oldest suburb, Krakovo. It was once a fishing village on the banks of the Ljubljanica River and has even been called the Montmartre of Ljubljana, thanks to the charming architecture of two-story cottages and the abundance of artists in and around Krakovo.

Krakovo is the best area to stay in Ljubljana for tourists due to its proximity to tourists hot spots.

There are numerous restaurants in the area, and a huge open-air market at Vodnik Square. Don’t let the suburb term fool you, this charming village is still just a ten-minute walk from Old Town Ljubljana.

There are trendy cafes, coffee shops and bars in this area, and a good nightlife scene makes it a popular destination for students and young travelers. Budget travelers will find many affordable hostel options in Trnovo.
