Hallstatt – best place to stay in Hallstatt Austria
Upon arrival in Hallstatt, you’ll see that it’s quite a small village, with nearly every hotel in Hallstatt within a five to ten minute walk. With a tiny population similar to Hallstatt (under 800 residents) Obertraun offers an abundance of recreational opportunities in every season. One of the larger towns in the Hallstatt region is Bad Ischl, with a population of about 13,000. This is a spa town, and was once the summer holiday resort of the Habsburg Emperor Franz Joseph I. The salt mines which made Hallstatt a profitable town also made Bad Ischl a spa town. There are several museums, and Kaiser Villa, the summer residence, is open for tours.
