Travel to Argentina

Argentina Destination

From tango to Malbec wines, South America’s second-largest country is a cultural and scenic treasure. The capital city of Buenos Aires is bursting with live music and incredible cuisine, while southern Argentina collides with Chile in the Patagonia region, with striking mountain peaks. The northwest region around Mendoza is Argentina’s wine country.

QUICK ARGENTINA FACTS

Currency: Argentine peso can be withdrawn from ATMs throughout Argentina, however keep in mind that smaller cities or towns may not have access to ATMs and its recommended to withdraw cash and take it with you.

Power Points: Most power points are the same as Australian power points (2 diagonal prongs), which is great for Australians and New Zealanders. Obviously I would recommend you take a Travel Adapter especially for non Australians.

Official Language: The official language of Argentina is Argentinian Spanish, which is different to Spanish spoken in Spain.

Health: There are no major health concerns in Argentina for travellers however i would recommend that you contact your doctor a few weeks before you travel as in some cases you need to start any medication a few days before your trip or you may need to get a vaccination.

Drinking Tap Water: The tap water is generally safe to drink, however, if you are unsure, make sure to ask your hotel receptionist or host.

Visa: Most countries don’t require a visa for short stays, to visit Argentinian.

Popular foods:
Asado (Barbecue, beef, pork, ribs, sausages, blood sausages and sweetbreads).
Empanada (Lightly crusty turnover may be filled with any number of filling, but typically with chicken, beef, spinach, corn, and/or cheese).
Chimichurri Sauce (uncooked herbal sauce is a fresh green color, dressing just about any entrée with a savory and spicy blend of parsley, garlic, oregano, olive oil and more).
Alfajor (small sandwich cookies are filled with some sort jam or mousse, however, alfajores consist more of crumbly shortbread).

When to go: Argentina is at its finest in the spring (mid-October to mid-December) and in the fall. (April to mid-June). Jacaranda trees bloom in the spring, while Buenos Aires experiences warm weather. In the fall, when tourist numbers are at their lowest, Argentine Patagonia explodes in beautiful autumnal hues.
