Review of Victorinox Etherius Gradient Luggage – Large

The Etherius Collection is constructed of 100% pure polycarbonate, which makes the cases, both ultra-strong and ultra-light. Furthermore, with a zippered expansion system, Y-shaped compression straps and two zippered divider walls, Etherius uprights contain the packing ease (aka, your clothes aren’t going to end up mixed up in your bag!).

I tested the use of this bag through 2 trips/12 flights (with 3 weeks between the trips), it didn’t once have give me any issues on space or get stuck when i was wheeling it (running) through airports.

Break-Resistant Shell

Etherius cases are designed to withstand intense and repeated use, which makes them perfect for one time or regular travellers. Victorinox has identified the ideal thickness of the 100% pure polycarbonate shell to allow the case to bend and flex under pressure without breaking or cracking but still keeping it lightweight.

The only thing to take note wit this type of bag is that it does have beautiful shiny coating and this does tend to get a little scratched from being thrown around by the lovely luggage handlers at the airport, however this doesn’t impact the bag too much – there isn’t anything wrong with a few scratches here and there, it shows you actually use your bag!

Smooth Spinner Wheels

Four premium Hinomoto caster wheels were selected for the Etherius Collection. The Hinomoto brand is known for producing high-quality wheels that minimize resistance for a smooth roll. They allow you to change directions with ease, regardless of the floor surface.

TSA Approved Lock

An Integrated Travel Sentry Approved combination lock secures belongings and allows TSA screeners to open the lock without destroying it, and relock it after inspection. The lock system also stops people being able to access your luggage with a pen – check out this video.

You can register a product in “My Victorinox profile” and set up the Access™ Lock Combination Recovery Program to save your lock combination so if you forget it in the future, you are able to easily locate it on your account.

Adjustable Handle

The lightweight aircraft-grade aluminum handle system locks into three different positions for comfortable fit for travelers of varying heights, those heights being: 37″, 39″ and 41″.  Additionally, the construction enables you to rest another bag on top for ease when travelling with multiple pieces of luggage.

Zippered Expansion

As mentioned above, the Etherius Large suitcase expands to 1.6″ inches when need, increasing the capacity of the bag by 15%. I can attest to this as I had to bring back a lot of minions from Japan for family members and those little guys are not as small as you would think!

Interior Organization

The inside of the case is just as important as the outside (I’m my opinion anyway), its great to have a tough case but if there is not internal organisation, its a little pointless as things can still get broken. The Ethers offers two divider walls, which help to organize your packing space. The top compartment features a 4-way stretch mesh around the outside of the zipper for easy, flexible packing and the main compartment features Y-shaped compression straps to keep your belongings in place and a zippered mesh divider seals the compartment.
