5 Experiences to Avoid While Travelling

Many of us have a natural affinity toward exploring and adventure. We may satisfy this need by traveling. While we may think we want to experience everything this beautiful world has to offer, there are a couple of encounters that are better left unknown.

Here are four experiences you want to avoid while traveling:

1. Illness

In case you’ve been living under a rock recently, there’s a pandemic going on. It’s important to be as careful as possible not to expose yourself to unnecessary germs. This precaution means you should wash your hands regularly, use hand sanitizer, wear masks, and practice social distancing. COVID-19 isn’t the only illness to look out for, though. It would help if you researched your destination to learn about diseases in the area and any immunizations you may need. It would be best if you also look into what you would do in the case of a medical emergency during your visit.

2. Getting Robbed

Some places, while beautiful, have high rates of crime. In particular, you may need to worry about pit-pocketers and armed thieves. Always be aware of your surroundings as well as where your items are. Keep personal items secure in a zipped pocket. You should also divide your money on yourself such as in your pocket, bag, shoe, and more, so if you lose some money, you won’t lose it all. Don’t drink too much or be too trusting of strangers. Finally, do your research to learn which areas are safe and which ones are known for illegal activity.

3. Experimental Drug Use

Life is about trying new things. However, certain things aren’t worth trying. While out in a new area, you may encounter people doing hard drugs. You may consider trying the drug yourself for the experience, but you can quickly regret it. Learning the answer to how long does a cocaine high last is often enough to discourage use. Plus, how can you be sure that the person giving you drugs is telling the truth about what it is? And who knows how you’ll react to the drug? You may have an awful time and even end up in legal trouble in a different part of the world. It’s just not safe.

4. Hooking Up

You will meet a lot of people throughout your travels. You might even meet a couple of attractive people. It can be tempting during your vacation to get caught up in the romance and bring someone back to your hotel room with you. However, keep in mind that you barely know this person. If choosing to hook up with a stranger on vacation, do so responsibly. Use protection and avoid getting yourself in a dangerous situation. It’s also wise to second guess any decisions you make while under the influence of alcohol. It’s easier said than done, which is why it’s a good idea to have a close friend by your side to be the voice of reason.

You want to have fun during your adventures. However, you don’t want to put yourself in unnecessarily risky situations. Take it from people who have learned the hard way that it’s best to avoid these travel experiences.
