Travel to Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe Destination

Once known as Rhodesia, Zimbabwe sits between South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, and Mozambique. The most famous spot in Zimbabwe is Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River.

It’s the largest waterfall in the world and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Zimbabwe is also home to several game parks where visitors can view the majestic animals of Africa.

Official Language: There are a number of different languages spoken in Zimbabwe but the main ones are English, Ndebele and Shona.

Health: There are a number major health concerns in Zimbabwe for travellers. I would recommend that you contact your doctor a few weeks before you travel as in some cases you need to start any medication a few days before your trip or you may need to get a vaccination.

Drinking Tap Water: The tap water is not generally safe to drink, only drink bottled water.

Visa: You need a visa to enter Zimbabwe. 30 day tourist visas are being issued on arrival.

Popular foods:
Sadza (corn is ground into a powdery cornmeal, mixed with water and boiled to make firm porridge, to be eaten with meat stew).
Mupunga Une Dovi (peanut butter rice served with a beef or chicken stew).
Chimodho (sweet dessert made of corn flour mixed with sugar, salt and butter).
Chimukuyu (biltong; smoked meat, dried for a few days).

When to go: Although September and October are exceptionally hot and dry months, the dry May to October winter season is known as the ideal time to visit Zimbabwe for game viewing due to warm temperatures, almost no rain, and a minimal malaria risk.
