Travel to Netherlands
Located on the North Sea, this European country sits between Belgium and Germany. The capital city is Amsterdam, popular for canals, the Anne Frank house, the red light district and coffee shops that are not all about coffee.
Elsewhere in the Netherlands, there are colorful tulip fields, windmills, and bicycles everywhere. There are even beach resorts in the north of the country.
QUICK NETHERLANDS FACTS
Currency: The Euro is used and can be withdrawn from ATMs throughout Netherlands, however keep in mind that smaller cities or towns may not have access to ATMs and its recommended to withdraw cash and take it with you.
Power Points: Most power points are the same as most other European power points (2 circular prongs). I would recommend you take a Travel Adapter especially for non Europeans.
Official Language: The official language of Netherlands is Dutch.
Health: There are no major health concerns in Netherlands for travellers. I would recommend that you contact your doctor a few weeks before you travel as in some cases you need to start any medication a few days before your trip or you may need to get a vaccination.
Drinking Tap Water: The tap water is generally safe to drink, however, if you are unsure, make sure to ask your hotel receptionist or host.
Visa: Most countries don’t require a visa for short stays, to visit Netherlands.
Popular foods:
– Poffertjes (mini pancakes, baked in an iron skillet, served with melted butter and dusted with icing sugar).
– Oliebollen (deep fried doughnuts balls).
– Erwtensoep (thick split pea soup).
– Appeltaart (dutch apple pie with a side of whipped cream).
When to go: The time frame from the middle of March to September is a perfect time to visit the Netherlands. Although it’s wise to be ready for rain at any time of the year, winters here are typically cold and wet. However, spring and summer are frequently drier and milder. The tulip flowering period lasts from the end of March to the middle of May, but the blossoms are often at their peak in the middle of April.
