Travel to Cyprus
One of the largest islands in the Mediterranean, Cyprus is divided culturally into Turkish and Greek areas. Blessed with mild winter weather and beautiful beaches, Cyprus is a popular winter destination for sun-seeking Europeans.
The historic and cultural aspects of Cyprus are often overshadowed by the beaches, but it’s a well-rounded destination for anyone seeking a sunny getaway.
QUICK CYPRUS FACTS
Currency: Cyprus uses the Euro as their currency which can be withdrawn from ATMs throughout Cyprus, however keep in mind that smaller cities or towns may not have access to ATMs and its recommended to withdraw cash and take it with you.
Power Points: Most power points are the same as the UK power points (3 square prongs). Obviously I would recommend you take a Travel Adapter especially for non Europeans.
Official Language: The official language of Cyprus is Cypriot Greek.
Health: There are no major health concerns in Cyprus for travellers however I would recommend that you contact your doctor a few weeks before you travel as in some cases you need to start any medication a few days before your trip or you may need to get a vaccination.
Drinking Tap Water: The tap water is generally safe to drink, however, if you are unsure, make sure to ask your hotel receptionist or host.
Visa: Most countries don’t require a visa for short stays, to visit Cyprus.
Popular foods:
– Halloumi (cheese made of goat or sheep milk, served either raw or grilled).
– Ofton Kleftiko (roasted lamb meat, marinated in olive oil, lemon, garlic, and onion).
– Souvlaki (Barbecued meat).
– Moussaka (Eggplant filled with meat and potato).
– Koupepia (Grape leaves stuffed with minced meat).
When to go: Low Season: November to April, is best time to travel to Cyprus for cheaper accommodation options, although the weather might not be ideal. Shoulder season: May and June, September and October is best time to travel to Cyprus for being able to enjoy the fun and sun without the crowds. High season: July and August is best time to travel to Cyprus for the best weather and special events but it can be more crowded.
