An island republic in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is well-known for its beaches, lagoons, and reefs. Black River Gorges National Park, which has rainforests, waterfalls, hiking paths, and fauna like the flying fox, is located in the hilly interior. The Champs de Mars racetrack, Eureka plantation home, and Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Gardens are just a few of the attractions of Port Louis, the country’s capital.


Currency: Mauritian rupee can be withdrawn from ATMs throughout Mauritius, however keep in mind that smaller cities or towns may not have access to ATMs and its recommended to withdraw cash and take it with you.

Power Points: For Mauritius there are two associated plug types, C and G. Plug type C is the plug which has two round pins and type G is the plug which has three rectangular pins in a triangular pattern.

Official Language: Mauritian Creole is a French-based Creole spoken in Mauritius, they also speak English in Mauritius.

Health: There are a number of major health concerns in Mauritius for travellers, including insect borne diseases, HIV and hepatitis to name a few. I would recommend that you contact your doctor a few weeks before you travel as in some cases you need to start any medication a few days before your trip or you may need to get a vaccination. The tap water is generally safe to drink, however, if you are unsure, make sure to ask your hotel receptionist or host or drink bottled water.
