How to get a great Car Hire deal in Australia

Before our trip to the Gold coast, we spent hours trying to compare car hire companies; it was such a pain in the butt! We had 6 or 7 different windows open from each different car hire company, trying to compare the type of cars, their prices per day and then all the fees and charges and insurance extras. It gave me a headache by the end of it but then again so did the thought of having to catch a bus everywhere!

After googling compare car hire in Australia we came up with 2 companies called VroomVroomVroom Car Rental and Drive now and thought we would take a look to see if it would be easier to book a car via these website rather than having a million windows open or setting up intricate excel spreadsheets to work out the best deals.

When going to VroomVroomVroom’s home page you selected the country you are travelling to, the pickup address (such as an airport or city) and if needed, a different return address, the dates your require, where you live and your age and then hit search.

VroomVroomVroom gave us a large selection of car rental companies within Australia such as Budget, Europcar, Thrifty, Avis, Hertz and Redspot. They also gave the options to narrow down what type of vehicle we wanted; such as the cheapest vehicle, a small vehicle, a large vehicle, searching by rental company and whether its manual or automatic. There certainly wasn’t a shortage of options.

The final steps were confirming our booking and the dates we needed the vehicle, as well as the vehicle we had chosen and the price of hire, we found that we could pay for the vehicle when we picked it up.

Drive now is similarly set up to VroomVroomVroom, with similar starting options although I found using Drive now was a difficult to use as you are unable narrow down your search terms. I also found Drive now not as easy on the eyes, there was a lot of information, I think they were trying to cramp too much into one page.

In the end they both had the same information and similar pricing for most of the car hire companies and vehicle choices but personally I have preferred VroomVroomVroom as it was much easier to navigate and their booking features were good:
• VroomVroomVroom has no booking fees which is great!
• You can cancel at any time without penalty
• You don’t need to make payment until you pick up the vehicle
• VroomVroomVroom is partnered with Qantas frequent flyers and Fly buys
• You aren’t required to provided credit card details at the time of booking.

How do you book your car hire when travelling?

This was not a sponsored post, I sincerely prefer VroomVroomVroom and decided to write about our experience as it was so quick and easy to make the booking and their booking features are more superior.

Great post Samantha. I use vroom too because it is easy to use and easy on the eye. Although I only use it for research purposes. I take the price I get on vroom to the car companies they usually match or beat it. They can do this because they make more as their bit paying commission to vroom.
