As people’s lives get busier, weekend breaks are becoming increasingly popular. Interestingly, the fact that holidaymakers are taking shorter breaks does not mean that people are doing less while they are away. Most holidaymakers plan their weekend trips carefully. Taking this approach ensures that they do as much as possible with the short period of time they have available.
Provided you choose your destination wisely, you can combine your favourite pastimes with seeing the sights and enjoying new experiences. City breaks are a particularly good option for those who want to do this.
Enjoy opera in Vienna
For opera lovers Vienna is heaven. The Viennese people have been enjoying opera since 1622 when Empress Eleonora of Gonzaga introduced this new Italian art form to the city.
Unfortunately, for the first hundred years, performances only took place in the royal court. However, that all changed when the State Opera house opened in 1869. Over the next few decades, the masses began to enjoy this beautiful performing art. From that point on, Vienna had the opera bug and continues to have it today.
If you want to enjoy a performance, you can do so at one of three venues in the city. The Volksoper, the Theater an der Wien and the Vienna State Opera house are all fantastic places to enjoy a performance. You can easily buy Vienna opera tickets for all of these venues by clicking the link.
Vienna’s vibrant live music scene
If opera is not for you do not worry because you can enjoy practically every genre in the city. Plenty of bars and clubs that provide live entertainment for their patrons. Many of the best of these are located in the Arena area of the city. There you will find several fantastic live music venues as well as some great dance clubs.
Vienna’s festival scene
Every year, the city of Vienna hosts 20 music festivals. They are all great events. The Viennese do things a little differently, which is part of the reason that a visit to one of their festivals is so enjoyable and memorable.
The Donauinselfest open-air festival is just one example. Bands from every corner of the world flock there every year. Attending this festival is a great way to experience the music of different cultures.
For lovers of classical music, the Grafenegg Festival is a fantastic event. Every year the Tonkunstler Orchestra performs in the grounds of this fairytale castle along with classical music stars from across the world.
The Vienna Popfest is still a small festival, but it is growing in popularity and getting bigger every year. Most of the performances take place outside, which makes for a great atmosphere.
Without a doubt, if you are a music lover, a weekend break in Vienna is a fantastic option. There is always plenty to see and do. If you would like to find out more about live music in Vienna, you can do so by clicking this link.
