Camping In Style On The Continent
Overview: Fancy a stylish camping trip on the Continent? Check out our top four European glamping sites!
Glamping has become very popular in recent years. This is partly due to the recession, which has meant that budget-conscious holidays have been in vogue. Glamping is a great option, as you can save a bit of money without compromising on style. It also makes it easier to take kids to a camp site.
Europe is full of fascinating glamping sites, where it’s possible to sample a wide range of unique accommodation – from yurts to beach huts, and from tents to gypsy caravans! If you fancy a spot of glamping this summer, then why not try one of the following destinations?
Casas Karen – Cadiz, Spain
In the pretty Spanish town of Cadiz you will find Casas Karen. Tucked away in a rustic village location, it is nevertheless within walking distance of an idyllic beach. The site is made up of 11 cottages and traditional Spanish beach huts. The latter are thatched from straw and bamboo, offering a truly unique place to stay. The biggest of these is packed with mod cons including a kitchen, bathroom and luxurious double bed. A range of activities are available on-site, including massage, yoga and meditation. Or if you fancy something a little more active, then head to the beach where canoeing and dolphin-watching trips are on offer.
Ceridwen Centre – Carmarthenshire, Wales
Situated in Wales’ Carmarthenshire, the Ceridwen Centre boasts four handmade Welsh yurts. However, the highlight is a pretty gypsy caravan from the nineteenth century, which has been lovingly refurbished. It contains a range stove and a supply of welsh woollen blankets for those chilly winter nights. You will see why it’s a popular destination for proposals! The site is located in the middle of an area of outstanding natural beauty, packed with hiking routes and nature-watching opportunities.
The Bell Tent in Woodbridge, England
In the heart of Suffolk, this excellent glamping site on Airbnb (pictured above) sits within Spring Farm Barn, a smallholding. Perfect for families, as the children can help with feeding animals, and the owners’ children always welcome new company. Very secluded and exclusive, with the tent kitted out in vintage style furnishings and maintained to a very high level of cleanliness.
Eco-Lodge Brejeira – Algarve, Portugal
Just outside the town of Silves on the Algarve, you will find Eco-Lodge Brejeira. This site offers an especially unique range of glamping accommodation, from a Mongolian yurt to a converted German fire truck. Each option comes with its own bathroom, meaning no night-time walks to the toilet block! Breakfast and a three-course dinner are also available on site, served in the pretty communal barn. The lodge is located in an area where there are a range of award-winning beaches to explore, or for something more strenuous head off on one of the nearby biking routes.
Ecovalee Yurt Camping – Dordogne, France
The Dordogne has long been a popular destination for family holidays, and this site is an excellent choice for those with children. Situated just outside the picturesque town of Lalinde, this 12 acre site offers a range of luxurious canvas yurts. Each of these will comfortably sleep a family of four. Kids will love exploring this site, which features a woodland play area, a ‘play yurt’ and several friendly pigs and chickens wandering around. Visit the weekly market in nearby Beaumont to stock up on cheese and wine, then enjoy one of the many activities available on site – from massage to bread-making, there’s fun for all the family here!
